Sika deer are native to far East Asia. The first introduction of sika deer to Czech lands dates back to the 19th century. The stag is 36" tall and weighs about 100 lbs. and the doe is about 30" at the shoulder and weighs approximately 80 lbs.. Hair color varies depending on the season from chestnut brown with small white spots in summer through dark grey in winter. Only the stags carry antlers, which resemble small red deer antlers. Sika shed the antlers in late spring. The rut takes place in October and November. Fawns are born in May and June of the following year.
