One of the most beautiful creatures of the European continent. A roe deer is native to Europe. Roe deer are small animals with reddish color. The male is 30" tall and weight approximately 50 lbs. and the female is 28" at the shoulder and 40 lbs. Only the males carry antlers which are shed early in the winter. The rut takes place in July and August. Fawns, usually twins, are born in May of the following year.

The buck-hunting season starts May 16 and extends through September 30. The doe season is from September 1 to December 31. The best time to hunt bucks is July and August during the rut. The roe deer is hunted mostly from tree stands or by stalking. Roe deer as well as other "big game" of the Czech republic can be taken by centerfire rifles only. Suggested calibers are .223 Rem, .243W, 7x57, 7mm-08 Rem. or .308.
