Moufflon




Moufflon is a wild sheep native to southern Europe. In the 19th century the moufflons have been introduced to the Central Europe where they successfully adapted. The Czech republic have the primacy in the moufflon trophy production. Currently 12 out of the first 15 worldrecord trophies came from the Czech republic. A ram is 21/2 feet tall and a sheep 2 feet tall. The body is of a robust shape with long and very strong legs. The body weight of the ram is approximately 90 lbs., 60 lbs of the sheep. The hair color is dark brown with large white spot on sides. Only the rams and sometimes old sheep carry horns. The rut takes place in October through December. The kids, usually singles, are born in March and April the following year. The bevy is led by an old female.

Hunting in game preserves is open year round. The best time to hunt mouflon is December and January. The mouflon is hunted from tree stands, by stalking or using the horse carriage. Moufflon can be taken by centerfire rifles only. Suggested calibers are .270 W, 7x57, .308, .30-06 Springfield.
